Meet Emily

    Emily Grecco is a senior at Duquesne University Honors College where she is pursuing a dual degree program in Secondary Social Studies Education and History/ Social Studies as well as certification in Instructional Technology. She is awarded the Dean's list and Directors' Circle awards for her academic achievement and excellence.

    

    Emily is part of many organizations on campus including: Alpha Sigma Tau, Rho Lambda, Order of Omega, Kappa Delta Epsilon, Pi Lambda Theta, and Phi Alpha Theta.  Emily is also a Resident Assistant and a student ambassador for the School of Education and College of Liberal Arts.

    At the beginning of her junior year, Emily was offered a Fellowship Opportunity through the University's Honors College.  Her Honors Fellow project focuses on how supplemental education is the new textbook education in school today, using Hamilton: An American Musical as support for her research and thesis.

​

     In April 2017, Emily will be representing Duquesne University and the College of Liberal Arts Department of History at the 2017 Undergraduate Research at the Capitol in Harrisburg, PA, presenting research on the city neighborhood of Oakland and the relationship to the University of Pittsburgh.

 

   

      In 2014, Emily was selected to join an elite group of undergraduate students from across the country to participate in the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Right Movement in Washington D.C. She wanted to create this website/blog to enlighten her peers about her experiences at this event as well as other historical and educational opportunities.

      Emily's love for history began in her seventh grade American History class and grew more and more each year. She was inspired to become a teacher by watching her teachers teach the curriculum with such a passion that made every student in the class want to learn and participate.  She hopes to inspire and enlighten students in the future with her knowledge and enthusiasm of history and social studies.

 

    Emily is an Alum Butler Area Senior High School where she graduated with honors, was treasurer of the student council, a participant in the Extreme Leadership Program conducted by Midwester Intermediate Unit IV of Grove City, Pa, a member of the National Honor Society, and was co-captain of her high school's dance team.
